Day 10: Ripley

I'm not even going to go into details about what we did, and how we did it. Instead, I'm going to write about what I can see as it pertains to what appears to be going on.

It's a fungus, from what I can discern. It seems to take over internally, spreading to the organs and the brain, quite rapidly. Eventually, the fungus starts to show externally, spreading over the skin and sprouting from the back of the head in an antler-like shape. The affected are violent to those who are unaffected, but leave them alone as soon as they are bitten. The affected also like cool, damp, dark areas (like the basement) and are most active at dawn and dusk. Their behavior, besides being violent to non-affected people, is animal-like, purposeful, and they never travel alone. It almost seems like the fungus is telling them what to do.

I do not know what they eat, or if they need to eat, though their organs will need food in order to function and do the bidding of the fungus, whatever that might be.

I found a jar in the sanctuary and collected some of the ants that are everywhere. It can't just be a coincidence that this whole thing happened at the same time a bunch of ants showed up. I shook one out onto my arm, and the ant immediately began biting me. I've never seen one act so violent. It wasn't a fire ant, or a particularly angry species, just a plain little black sugar ant.

Are they the harbingers of this hell? These seemingly harmless little insects?
